Here’s
the deal

For you, your neighbors, and everyone else here in Lincoln and Lancaster County—let’s Sort It Out! Come on down, and learn to talk trash and recycling with the one and only Phil Bagwell!

The landfill receives items that could go to other places—better places.

How can you help? Become a Toss Boss and play the game with us! Recyclables can get a second life. Items that can be fixed, patched, mended, or donated can save new material from becoming waste. And intentionally planning your grocery list so that you don’t buy food you won’t eat can make a huge difference. Every day at the landfill, Lincolnites are throwing away perfectly reusable and recyclable materials that could have had a chance to reinvent themselves—they just need your help.

Food waste is our biggest opportunity to impact the landfill. Do a little dance, and make some moves toward buying only what you’re going to eat, and you’ll make a dent in what currently accounts for 22.7% of the Bluff Road Landfill.

How to play

Shop with Purpose

Before you get to the grocery store, get a solid plan together. Make sure you’re only buying what you’ll be able to eat before it spoils. You’ll also save a pretty penny when you check out!

Store with Strategy

Putting the foods that will spoil soonest at the front of your fridge and pantry shelves means it’ll be easier to use your goods before they go bad.

Freeze for Later

Stop the music, but keep dancing—many food items can be frozen before they go bad!
